A skate park is a place where people who share the same adrenaline junkie DNA go to interact. You will meet new friends and learn to love the skate park. There are always things you can do right, and there are always things to avoid.

Here are a few situations you will want to avoid.

1. Haters

Kick scooters get “hated” on all the time by other people at the skate park. You just have to ignore it and realize you’re there to ride. Be proud of your kick scooter and have some fun!

2. Skate park snobs

Another thing to avoid are the overly confident people who think they “run” the skate park. They think they are the only ones there and everybody who gets in their way is trouble. Try to stay away from these people and make everyone happy, especially if you’re just starting out.

3. The skate park is not a “road”

One of the most important things to avoid is the idea that the skate park is like an intersecting road. People have their paths and do not want other riders getting in that direct path. It is very annoying if somebody “snakes” you and cuts you off. The kids who most often do this are the newer riders to the skate park. They haven’t learned the flow or when it’s their turn.

4. Shady groups up to no good

One of the biggest concerns at skate parks is the access to illegal substances. Skate parks have a bad reputation of having drug-ridden teenagers there. In actuality, people with illegal drugs or alcohol are rarely hanging out at skate parks. However, if you have a bad feeling about a particular group, avoid them. It is not unusual for police to “check in” on skate parks, and you don’t want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The skate park is a very fun place but make sure you understand there are always things to avoid. Stick to these basic guidelines and you will have no trouble at the skate park and might even make a couple of life long friends!
